Zusammenfassung:2-(2,6-Dimethyl-3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-4-carboxamide) glutaric acid of the formula: < IMG > (I) and the pharmaceutically acceptable disodium salt thereof are prepared by reacting the pentafluorophenyl ester of 2,6-dimethyl-3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-1,4-dihydroisonicotinic acid with glutamic acid in the presence of di-iso-propylethyl amine in an inert organic solvent; or by reacting 2,6-dimethyl-3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-1,4-dihydro-isonicotinic acid with glutamic acid and dicyclohexylcarbodiimide in the presence of l-hydroxybenzotriazole in an inert organic solvent; or by reacting the bistrimethylsilyl ester of glutamic acid with a mixed anhydride of 2,6-dimethyl-3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-4-carboxylic acid and isobutyl ester of carbonic acid at a temperature from 0 to -10.degree.C in an inert organic solvent; and optionally converting the acid of formula (I) thus obtained into the pharmaceutically acceptable disodium salt thereof. The acid of the formula (I) and its disodium salt possess antiarrhythmic activity.
