The catalyst comprises: (a) a reaction mixture formed by reacting a rare earth carboxylate (N(RCO2)3 with an aluminium trialkyl , (b) an aluminium trialkyl and/or an alkylaluminium hydride , and (c) a Lewis acid. The catalyst can be produced by mixing the components in any order.
