Zusammenfassung: | The invention provides an anti-skid assembly for mounting removably on a conventional vehicle tire having a pair of opposing side walls and a circumferentially extending outer peripheral tread surface, the assembly comprising a plurality of elongate flexible anti-skid straps each having a greater width than thickness, and anchor means connected to the straps to attach the assembly removably to the tire so that in use a central portion of each strap extends across the tread surface of the tire and end portions of the strap overlie the side walls of the tire radially inwardly of the tread surface, the straps being circumferentially spaced apart from one another; the assembly being arranged such that, when it is fitted on a tire and the tire is rotating in normal rolling engagement with a road surface, the central portions of the straps lie substantially flat against the tread surface of the tire and if the tire begins to skid the friction between the road surface and an adjacent strap causes the central portion of that strap to twist to bring the width of the central portion towards a position perpendicular to the road surface to increase the frictional engagement between the road surface and the tire thereby assisting in halting the skid, the strap when having passed from contact with the road surface readopting its position with the central portion substantially flat against the tread surface; and the anchor means including a plurality of braided cables to which the ends of the straps are attached, one end of each strap being attached by fastener means including means passing through the parted strands of the respective braided cable. |
