SUBSTITUTED 1,3-DIPHENOXYPROPAN-2-OL DERIVATIVES AND THEIR MANUFACTURE AND USE

Compounds of the formula: and therapeutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R1 is -C1 or -C(CH3)3; R2 is -CO-H when R3 denotes carboxyl or alkoxycarbonyl in which the alkyl contains up to three carbon atoms, or -CO-R' (in which R' is a straight or branched alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or 2-(4'-chlorophenoxy)-prop-2-yl), methyl, ethyl, benzyl, or tetrahydropyranyl; A is a valence bond, vinylene, or ethylene; and R 3 is -COOH, -COOMe (where Me is sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium or aluminium or a therapeutically acceptable ammonium cation), or -COOR" (where R" is a straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated alkyl radical of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, which is unsubstituted or terminally substituted by methoxy or acetoxy), or (where A is a valence bond and R2 is straight or branched alkanoyl of 2 to 5 carbon atoms) having a strong lipid-lowering action coupled with good tolerance.
