Zusammenfassung:The present invention provides a method of preparing acetaldehyde, which comprises direct liquid-phase catalytic oxidation of ethylene in the presence of oxygen in an aqueous catalyst solution, containing salts of palladium, copper and acetic acid at a temperature of from 100 to 130.degree.C and under a pressure of from 10 to 15 atmospheres, the improvement in which the catalyst solution is prepared by treating cuprous chloride (1) with oxygen in an aqueous solution containing 15-30 per cent by weight of acetic acid with addition of palladium chloride, and in the ethylene oxidation the concentration of acetic sold in the catalyst solution is maintained within the range 15 to 30 percent by weight.
