1390339 3,4 - Dihydro - (1,2)oxazino- [3,2-b] - quinazolin - 10(2H) - ones CARTERWALLACE Inc 15 June 1973 [19 June 1972] 28518/73 Heading C2C Novel compounds I in which X and Y are hydrogen halogen or C 1-6 alkyl and each R is hydrogen or C 1-6 alkyl are prepared by reacting an alkyl anthranilate II with a 4-halogenoalkanoic acid halide in which each Z is chlorine or bromine in the presence of an acid acceptor and reacting the resulting amide-ester with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in the presence of alkali. Each R is hydrogen or methyl and X and Y are hydrogen 8-chlbro, 8-methyl or 6,8-dichloro in Compounds I. The 4-halogenoalkanoic acid chloride is prepared by reaction of the corresponding acid with thionyl chloride or reacting an appropriately substituted γ-butyrolactone with thionyl chloride in the presence of zinc chloride. Compounds I are anti-inflammatory agents and form with a carrier a pharmaceutical composition which may be administered orally or parenterally.
