In some telephone systems unsuccessful (no answer or line engaged) calling subscriber numbers can be stored in the called subscriber station and automatically retrieved for connection establishment when the called subscriber instigates the retrieval. However, the retrieval and connection establishment is automatic, in accordance with presetting of the apparatus in the called station. Apparatus is now provided to display (AZ) the total number of stored numbers and to display visually the numbers themselves, switches (WT) enabling stored number erasure and/or connection establishment selectively on the basis of the number displayed and the decision of the subscriber viewing the display. Facilities (T1 to Tx, Tu) are provided for forwarding selected or all displayed numbers to a substitute station. Call-up means (ABS) enables repetitive display of the sequence of stored numbers so that a selected number can be used for connection establishment during a respective call-up cycle. An established connection can be switched to a calling subscriber corresponding to a displayed number. Conference connections can also be established.
