Zusammenfassung:	Residual gases containing 15 % or less of gaseous chlorides are treated by filtration on a particulate material and the metal chlorides are then adsorbed on charcoal beds (20, 22, 24). The metal chlorides are desorbed (at 24) and then hydrolysed (at 70) with steam to form HCl and metal oxides. HCl is removed from the gases by scrubbing with water and the remaining gases are again hydrolysed to convert COCl2 into hydrochloric acid, and are then washed and burned. The gases discharged into the atmosphere contain CO2, N2, H2O, O2 and approximately 5 ppm of HCl.
