GLASS WOOL SEPARATOR FOR LEAD BATTERIES AND COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR ITS MODIFICATION

The invention relates to a modified separator made ofabsorption glass wool which is built in the valve-regulated leadbatteries by a closed oxygen cycle. The modification is made whena thin film of polymers with hydrophobic properties or acomposition of hydrophobic polymer and surfactants is formed onpart of the surfaces of the separator threads which partiallyattributes hydrophilic properties to the polymer film. Thepolymers are adsorbed on the surface of the glass threads mainlyin the parts of their contact and in this way bind them in anintact net. This structure has increased mechanical resistance andbetter chemical properties. The efficiency of the closed oxygencycle including the transport of oxygen and water between thepositive and negative plates is improved as well as the currentgeneration and accumulation in the battery in comparison withbatteries the separators of which have not been modified.4 claims
