It produces a microporous sorbent with micropore radius not exceeding 200 nm. The method involves subjecting a gel-type ion-exchange resin containing 8-20 percent of divinyl benzene to a thermal treatment at 300-500 degrees C for 30-50 minutes, followed by activation with superheated steam at temperatures 500-800 degrees C.
