Zusammenfassung:	Functional fluids having higher viscosity than those known in the art can be prepared by a) reacting one or more monohydric or dihydric alcohol initiators with one or more alkylene oxides, and b) terminating the reaction, preferably when the alkylene oxide adduct of the monohydric or dihydric initiators has a molecular weight in the range from 2,000 to 20,000, with a quantity of epoxy resin such that the ratio of hydroxyl to epoxy resin equivalents is in the range from 2 to 1 to 5 to 1.
