N substd. by 1-7C alkyl or aryl) are prepd. by reacting a substd. phenylamine with a halo alkanoic acid deriv. (I) may form compsns. with other herbicides. Specif claimed is N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)glycine prepd. from 2,6-diethylphenylamine and ethyl bromoacetate.
