1355744 Synthetic ester lubricants TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 9 June 1972 [6 July 1971] 26975/72 Heading C5F A synthetic lubricating oil comprises a major portion of an ester base oil formed from a C 2 - C 18 monocarboxylic acid and pentaerythritol, a polypentaerythritol or trimethylol propane, together with (A) 0À1-2À5 wt. per cent of an ammonium thiocyanate of formula where R is a C 1 -C 30 hydrocarbyl or aminosubstituted hydrocarbyl and R1, R11 and R111 are H or C 1 -C 30 hydrocarbyl or the radical where R1111 is a C 2 -C 4 bridging polymethylene group, and (B) 0À04-2 wt. per cent of polyhydroxy anthraquinone of formula where X, Y and Z are H or OH, at least one of them being OH. Examples are quinizarin, purpurin and quinalizarin. Specified thiocyanates are tert-octyl ammonium, and C 18 - C 22 tert-alkylamine salts. Many base esters are listed.
