Zusammenfassung: | Oxidation products, consisting substantially of propylene oxide and acetaldehyde are produced by the oxidation of propylene with oxygen the reaction-components being conducted at elevated pressure and high flow velocity through a pre-heating chamber where they are heated to a temperature of 250 to 350 DEG C., the flow velocity being so adjusted that no substantial oxidation takes place in this chamber, and the reaction mixture then being conducted into a reaction chamber where the flow velocity is reduced so as to effect oxidation. Preferably a small quantity of water or steam is added to the reactants supplied to the pre-heating chamber. The oxygen used may be supplied in the form of air and the reaction gases may contain other components, for example, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxides or propane. Preferably the flow velocity in the preheating chamber is about 3 to 30 times greater than that in the reaction chamber. Specifications 643,687 and 718,603 are referred to. |
