The invention concerns a novel method for preparing camptothecin and its derivatives by convergent synthesis from a 3-aminomethyl quinoline derivative and 5-hydroxy 5-ethyl 6-oxo 5,6-dihydro pyran carboxylic acid and the resulting intermediates.
