When banner advertisements are presentS, they are selected from a pool according to an adbertising category based on the demographic profile. When the television viewer selects the banner advertisement, either by way of a touch screen (505) or a remote control, a web browser retrieves the referenced web page and eclipses the underlying video entertainment presented on the screen (560). A subscriber reception unit provides the intelligence and hardware foundation that allows a web browser to control the reception of video content and the overlay of graphic web pages. A micro-server, hosted in the subscriber unit, enables local control of the hardware, including channel, volume, video color and contrast, through HTML scripting in web pages tailored for the system (520). |
