Zusammenfassung:	The method for authenticating documents (10) by which documents are tested using authenticating criteria, that comprises at least two different authenticity criteria. Individual authenticity classes differ from each other by at least one criterion. An authenticity class is chosen and a document is tested according to its criteria, and if it conforms to the criteria it is assigned to that authenticity class. An independent claim is made for a device for testing the authenticity of documents.
