Zusammenfassung:Method for monitoring a computer system boot sequence. A watchdog timer, which may be associated with the BIOS, is initiated 52, and is cleared when a predetermined point in the boot sequence or operating system function occurs 60, 68. If the timer remains uncleared after a predetermined time period, it is determined that a failure exists 54, 74. The system may then invoke a service mode operating system 56, 76. Also disclosed is a method and computer system whereby the pressing of a service button or actuation of a service switch 64, 78 at any time during the operation of the computer system invokes automatic technical support 66.
