Zusammenfassung:Sugar-contg. liquid is purified, i.e. deionised and decolourised, by contact with an anion exchanger resin (I) derived from a crosslinked vinylbenzyl chloride. quaternary, or strongly basic, as well as weakly basic resins may be used in deionising, and may have gel-like or macroporous structure. Method is used in cane sugar mfr. Advantages include (i) refined sugar quality is improved; (ii) conc. sugar soln. quantity decolourised in a given time can be increased; (iii) process avoids use of large quantities of adsorbent; (iv) decolourising capacity of (I) is 25% better than that of chloromethyl ether styrene resins; (v) (I) are stable to heat; (vi) (I) are more easily regenerated than chloromethyl ether resins.
