Zusammenfassung:	Vaccine for stimulating or enhancing in a subject to whom the vaccine is administered, production of antibodies directed against GM2. The vaccine comprises an amount of purified GM2 effective to stimulate or enhance antibody production in the subject, an effective amount of a microbial adjuvant and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. This invention also provides a method for stimulating or enhancing in a subject production of antibodies directed against GM2. The method comprises administering to the subject an effective dose of the vaccine of this invention. The microbial adjuvant may be bacillus Calmette-Guerin or Salmonella minnesota R595. This invention further provides a method for treating cancer in a subject affected with cancer. The method comprises administering to the subject an effective dose of the vaccine of this invention. Finally, this invention provides a method for preventing cancer in a subject affected with cancer. The method comprises administering to the subject an effective dose of the vaccine of this invention.
