MEDICAMENTS

Medicaments with antidepressant activity contain an L-pyroglutamyl peptide of formula (I) (where X is the residue of L-histidine, L-histidine pyrrolidide, L-histidyl-L-proline, L-histidyl-L-tryptophan amide, L-phenylalanyl-L-prolinamide, L-methionyl-L-prolinamide or L-lysyl-L-prolinamide). (I) have the same antidepressant activity as TRH (L-pyroglutamyl-L-histidyl-L-prolinamide) and can be used for the treatment of neurotic and psychotic disorders, esp. depressions. In contrast to TRH, the thyrotropin releasing activity of (I) is low or absent, so that (I) do not give rise to a risk of hyperthyreosis, and (I) also have a lower prolactin-releasing activity than TRH.
