Zusammenfassung:A process for the preparation of lactic acid, comprising a fermentation reaction carried out at a pH in the range of between 5.5 to 6.5, wherein the pH is adjusted to said range by introducing into the reaction mixture M(OH)2, wherein M is Ca or Mg, to obtain M-lactate-containing broth and recovering the lactic acid from said M-lactate by reacting the same with HC1, either by treating the M-lactate-containing broth with HC1 or by precipitating M-lactate from the broth, and subsequently reacting said precipitate with HC1, to yield a lactic acid solution, and extracting and/or purifying lactic acid from said solution.
