Zusammenfassung: | Titanium dioxide concentrates are prepared by removing the iron from material which contains titanium oxide and iron oxides by means of gases containing at least 70% by volume of chlorine, by converting at least 0.1% of the iron present in the titanium oxide-containing material by means of a reducing agent at temperatures from 500 to 1300 DEG C to the zero-valent state. The partially reduced material containing titanium oxide is reacted at temperatures from 300 to 1300 DEG C with the chlorine-containing gases. The reducing agents used can be carbon or gases such as hydrogen, natural gas or carbon monoxide or mixtures thereof. |
