Prefd. fuels comprise 1,1-diethoxyethane (Ia) and mixts. of (Ia) with petroleum-derived diesel oil. The fuels have high cetane numbers (e.g. 41-105), are miscible with conventional diesel fuels, and can be produced from non-petroleum raw materials.
