Method for programming an electronic device and associated electronic device

The invention concerns a method for accessing a transmission channel identified by at least a character in an electronic device (1), a plurality of channels respectively identified by a character which can be selected by a control signal (Si). The invention is characterised in that when the device is in standby mode, the reception of n signals spaced by a time interval less than a given duration DELTA t determines the access to a channel identified by concatenation of n characters respectively associated to the n signals. The invention also concerns an electronic device comprising a storage implementing said method, and a system comprising said device and control means such as a remote control for controlling access to the channel desired by the user. The invention is particularly applicable to a television set, decoder, record player and/or recorder, video tape recorder.
