WATER BASED ROLLING LUBRICANT

1411654 Metal rolling lubricant KAISER ALUMINUM & CHEMICAL CORP 9 Feb 1973 6535/73 Heading C5F A lubricating oil comprises by weight, 35-90% hydrocarbon base oil, 5-50% of at least one long chain aliphatic monohydric alcohol having 10 to 20 carbon atoms, 5-50% of at least one (C 1 -C 5 ) alkyl ester of a fatty acid, the fatty acid having 10-20 carbon atoms and 0À05-1% of at least one oil soluble, water insoluble emulsifier. Examples of various alcohols and esters are given in the Specification. The emulsifier may be alkanyl polyoxyethylene phosphoric acid monoesters, alkylpolyoxyethylene phosphoric acid monoesters and glycerol monoricinoleate. The oil may also contain 0À05-1% by weight of an oil-insoluble, non- ionic emulsifier, e.g. polyglycol esters of fatty acids having 10-20 carbon atoms, polyoxyethylene ethers of long chain alkanes having 10-20 carbon atoms and ethoxylated castor oils. 3-20% of the oil may be emulsified inwater. Various alkali metal salts and acids may be added to the aqueous phase and antioxidants, e.g. 2,6-ditertiary butyl-4-methyl phenol to the oil phase. The examples illustrate various oil in water emulsions.
