PROCESS FOR PREPARING CIS-HEXAHYDRODIBENZOPYRANONES

dl-6a,10a-cis-1-Hydroxy-3-substituted-6,6-dimethyl-6,6a,7,8,10,10a- hexahydro-9H-dibenzo[b,d]pyran-9-ones of the formula in which R represents C5-C10-alkyl, C5-C10-alkenyl, C5-C8-cycloalkyl or C5-C8-cycloalkenyl, where the hydrogen atoms present in the positions 6a and 10a are arranged in the cis-position to one another. These compounds are obtained by reacting a 1-alkoxy-4-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)-1,4-cyclohexadiene with a resorcinol containing the radical R in the 5-position in the presence of a catalyst from the group consisting of boron tribromide, boron trifluoride, or tin(IV) chloride in an inert organic solvent. The compounds obtained can be used as medicaments for the treatment of anxiety states and depressions.
