The catheter hub assembly includes a catheter hub body (130), a septum (132) and a septum retainer (134), the catheter hub body (130) having a distal end (136), a proximal end (138) and an internal wall (140) defining an internal fluid passageway (142) therebetween, the internal wall (140) defining a transitional step (144) within the internal fluid passageway (142), the septum (132) positioned within the internal fluid passageway (142) such that a distal end (136) of the septum (132) abuts up against the transitional step (144), the septum retainer (134) at least partially receivable within the internal fluid passageway (142) and having an outer wall (166) shaped and sized to interlock with the inner wall (164) of the catheter hub body (130), the outer wall (166) including one or more lateral ribs (176) configured to inhibit rotation of the septum retainer (134) relative to the catheter hub body (130).
