The system may include a blood pump that may include one or more impellers configured to cause blood to flow through the pump. The system may also include one or more guidewires. The guidewires may include one or more proximal sections and one or more distal sections, and the distal sections may have first dimensions and the proximal sections may have second dimensions, and the first dimensions may be greater than the second dimensions. The guidewires may also be tapered, geometrically shaped, have a curved profile, a combination thereof, or other configurations.
