In addition, the safety guard (55) is mounted for vertical movement relative to the vehicle body (7) and a support surface for the vehicle (2), with the vertical movement being selectively performed by an operator of the vehicle (2) or automatically based on sensor inputs (380, 390) used to assess road and/or vehicle operating conditions.
