The invention relates to a handrail disinfecting device (41) for a handrail (17) of a passenger transport installation (1). The handrail disinfecting device (41) has a plurality of light emitting diodes (43), which can emit germicidal electromagnetic radiation in the region of their light cone (45). A pass-through segment (57) of the handrail disinfecting device (43) is divided at least into two sectors (61, 62, 63) and has a carrier (49) having planes (71, 72, 73), which are arranged in the sectors (61, 62, 63). The light emitting diodes (43) are arranged, with orientation according to the planes (71, 72, 73), on the carrier (49). In one of the sectors, there are two planes (72, 73), which are parallel to the longitudinal extension of the pass-through segment (57) and inclined at angle (α) of 100° to 160° to each other.
