Abstract A fire damper which includes a housing mountable in or connected to a duct; a damper plate pivotally mounted in said housing so as to be pivotable between an open position 5 in which air can pass through said housing and a closed position in which the damper plate substantially prevents air from passing through said housing; means for moving said damper plate between said open and closed positions; a seal around the outer edge of said damper plate, said seal including an intumescent material designed to expand in thickness once the temperature in the housing exceeds a trigger temperature, 10 and a layer of high temperature resistant ceramic material which is arranged so as to be pressed against the inner wall of the housing adjacent the closed damper plate when the intumescent material expands. 15 Figure 1 co -CD CoN
