GATHERING RESEARCH DATA A method of gathering research data using a plurality of monitoring devices is described. The method comprises recording first data with a first portable monitoring device (M1), the first data including first research data, the first data recorded at a first time and omitting first omitted data; detecting, by executing an instruction with a processor in the first portable monitoring device, that a second portable monitoring device (M2) was proximate to the first portable monitoring device at the first time; in response to detecting that the second portable monitoring device was proximate, requesting, by executing an instruction with the processor in the first portable monitoring device, the first omitted data from the second portable monitoring device; augmenting, by executing an instruction with the processor in the first portable monitoring device, the first research data with the first omitted data from the second portable monitoring device.
