Zusammenfassung:	Abstract Disclosed is a cleaning device for cleaning an escalator handrail belt, the device comprising a container for a cleaning agent, a sprayer for spraying the handrail belt with cleaning agent, and an applicator to evenly apply the cleaning agent to the handrail belt. A control unit may be provided for controlling spraying of the handrail belt when a sensor senses a person on the escalator. A transceiver may be provided for receiving and transmitting monitoring information to an external device, including the number of sprays within a time period and the amount of agent in the container.
