A method for supervising a trip circuit and a trip supervision relay therof

The present invention relates to a method for monitoring a health condition of a trip circuitry using a trip circuit supervision (TCS) relay. A circuit breaker operates to interrupt a current flowing in an electrical line by opening main contacts and auxiliary contacts to indicate status of the circuit breaker contacts. The circuit breaker is tripped with a signal from the protection relay. Trip circuitry includes protection relay to circuit breaker connection, coils to activate tripping of the circuit breaker. The method comprises: utilizing auxiliary contacts for monitoring circuit breaker status by electrically connecting the auxiliary contacts with a first coil in the TCS relay; utilizing the trip contacts for monitoring the health condition of the trip circuitry associated with trip operation of the circuit breaker with second coil in the TCS relay wherein the first coil and the second coil are comprised within a single TCS relay.
