The disclosed binder for a coal briquette comprises at least one cellulose ether-based compound selected from the group consisting of alkyl cellulose, hydroxyalkyl cellulose, and hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose, which have viscosity of 1,000-80,000 cps. The binder for a coal briquette may not need an additional strength enhancer, and can produce a high-strength coal briquette, capable of simplifying the manufacturing process of the coal briquette.
