Abstract Gaming premises that contain a large number of gaming machines (i.e. 'Pokies') need an efficient, safe and fast method of collecting, counting and verifying the cash from each machine. State gaming regulations mandate that the individual totals cleared from these machines must be checked and transferred to a Gaming Floor Management Systems (GFMS) regularly. Currently there are a number of simple 'clearance systems' on the market for this purpose. However these systems are stand-alone and firmware based and can only carry out one clearance function at a time and only on separate equipment The SmartClear Clearance System (SCS) however, is a complete mobile cash handling system and software application that allows all three main gaming machine clearance functions to be carried out at the same time. This is achieved by cleverly integrating standard note and coin-counting equipment with a custom designed mobile trolley, operator interface module, bar code printer and scanner. The novel application then allows this peripheral equipment to send data back to the applications database for processing and reporting purposes. Unlike any other software application on the market SCS allows Gaming Machine's 'Coin Hoppers', 'Coin Drop Boxes', 'Note Boxes' and Cash Redemption Terminals (CRT) to be cleared concurrently using one software platform and piece of equipment, significantly reducing the time taken to carry out a clearance.
