Methods for identifying the habitats of insects

A method for obtaining indications for specifying the habitat areas of insects which belong to the same kind, comprising: (a) a step for determining the DNA base sequences of one or more insects originating in two or more habitat areas; (b) a step for the alignment of the base sequences determined in step (a); (c) a step for, as the results of the alignment in step (b), finding sites consisting of one or more bases that have been conserved in all of the base sequences subjected to the alignment and excluding these sites from the base sequences; (d) a step for referring all or some of the sites remaining as the results of the exclusion in step (c) as type-identifying sites; (e) a step for comparing bases corresponding to each other in the type-identifying sites obtained in step (d) and classifying these type-identifying sites into a type comprising type-identifying sites which are completely identical to each other and one or more other types comprising type-identifying sites which are not completely identical with each other; and (f) a step for determining the habitat areas of the insects belonging to the individual types classified in step (e) and thus referring the type-identifying sites of the respective groups as indications.
