Zusammenfassung:Spent nuclear fuel sealing procedure involves placing the spent fuel in a cartridge made from two cylindrical sections which are welded together. The second section is then closed and sealed using a vented end cover. The cartridge is evacuated and re-filled with a neutral gas under controlled pressure. The vent is closed, and the welds are tested for gas leaks. The different stages of the procedure are carried out by remote control in a sealed chamber. Spent nuclear fuel sealing procedure involves placing the spent fuel in a cartridge (1) made from two cylindrical sections (2, 3), preferably of stainless steel, which are then welded together. The second section is then closed and sealed by an end cover (4) with a vent (5) enclosed in a housing (20). The cartridge is evacuated and re-filled with a neutral gas under controlled pressure. The vent is closed by crushing and resistance welding, the housing is removed, and the welds are tested for gas leaks. The different stages of the procedure are carried out by remote control in a sealed chamber.
