An extract of F. tataricum cereal grains and/or hulls with a solvent mixture comprising an alcoholic solvent and water which comprises a melanogenesis inhibitor having UV absorption characteristics as shown in the Figur and an Rf value of its spot in thin layer chromatography (developing solvent: ethyl acetate : methanol : water = 14 : 5 : 1) of about 0.68.
