A charging device for a cordless telephone is proposed which is independent of the charging facility provided at a fixed station, is not tied to one location and offers convenience to the user of a cordless telephone. The additional charging device is not connected to the telephone network, and the rest for the cordless telephone is designed so that the operating controls are accessible to the user when the cordless telephone lies in the rest for the purpose of charging its battery. A loudspeaker unit located in the charging device is connected via additional contacts to the cordless telephone. The charging device for a cordless telephone which is independent of the fixed station allows the cordless telephone to be charged and safely stored anywhere within its transmission and reception range, while remaining convenient to use during charging.
