The vehicle has an undercarriage (U) suspended on a graveled superstructure of a rail section of a gravel flight during operation of the vehicle. The undercarriage is provided with an acoustic signal receiver (1), which acoustically detects gravel stones striking on the undercarriage, where a signal (S1) is supplied from the receiver. A signal processing device (5) processes the signal such that a gravel flight signal (S5) is produced, which shows the admission of the undercarriage with gravel stones. The flight signal enters into an operation mode of the vehicle from the processing device.
