Configuration management in a telecommunications system, wherein the telecommunications system comprises one or more of network elements (2) each having a plurality of software and/or hardware components, the network elements (2) being communicatively coupled to a network management system (1) and a configuration server (3); the configuration management comprising: generating, in the network management system (2), configuration update files constituting a definition of updated configuration for a selected network element (2) ; storing the configuration update files on the configuration server (3); downloading, in response to a configuration update command from the network management system (2) to the network element (2), configuration update files from the configuration server (3) to the network element (2); performing a configuration updating process controlled by the network element (2) dependent on the configuration update files.
