Process for repairing a damaged region (2) of an aircraft fiber bonded component (1) where the component has integrated fiber optics (3) involving the steps:(a) pre-treatment of the damaged section with partial mechanical material removal, (b) make visible the fiber optics in an edge part (6) of the damaged region (2) by chemical or plasma etching or by means of a burner or laser beam. (c) splicing of a fiber optics bridge (18) for reproduction of the optical bond, and (d) glueing in or over a repair patch (20). An independent claim is included for a device for making integrated fiber optics visible.
