Zusammenfassung:	A device for locating and protecting a person is disclosed. Said device comprises a transmitter, positioning means for determining the position of the device and a reversible closable fixing means, for fixing the same to the body of the person. The transmitter transmits an emergency signal when the fixing means is opened without authorisation and the transmitter also transmits a message signal independently of the emergency signal. A method for operating a device is also disclosed, whereby the device is fixed to the body of a person with a fixing means by means of closing a locking device. Said device comprises a transmitter which transmits an emergency signal to a central receiver when the fixing means is opened without authorisation and a message signal is transmitted by the transmitter independently of the emergency signal.
