The invention relates to a method for converting tree-structured data of a source object model supplied by a first computer into data that can be read by a second computer of a freely definable target object model using an independent rule system. The source and target tree consist of objects of one or several object classes containing one or more attributes. In this and other steps, a root of the target tree is basically generated and the roots of the source tree are characterized as generating instance for the roots of the target tree. Furthermore, rules for searching calculation instances of the source tree and for calculating the attributes of the source or target tree are determined.
