Zusammenfassung: | The system uses optical and/or radar unit (2a,b) to monitor area ahead. If pedestrian is detected, image is processed (5) and likely time to impact is determined to provide signal to control actuator to move bumper to prevent/decrease injury to pedestrian. Optical and/or radar unit (2a,b) monitors area ahead of vehicle to provide signals (1c) reflected from pedestrian (1a). Signal is received by detector unit (2b) located in or behind bumper. Detector signals (3) are fed to object oriented neural fuzzy image database and are compared with pedestrian object image classes stored in database (6). Image processor unit (5) identifies contour of pedestrian and prognosis computer (7) determines estimated collision time from distance of vehicle to pedestrian, and vehicle speed. Prognosis computer (7) provides signal (8) to control actuator unit (9) to release reset element to move bumper carrier (11a) and/or flexible support (11b) by about 4 to 20 cm before determined likely collision time. |
