Zusammenfassung:	A method and apparatus for creating a transient equivalent of thermoplasticity in wool or animal fibres, such that they can be extended by substantial amounts without breaking and without requiring to be at high moisture regain or chemically treated to increase plasticity. In one version a process is provided for stretching sliver in which the sliver is passed in a substantially straight line path through a stretching zone from feed rollers to a single haul pulley unit. False twist generated by the haul pulley unit is freely propagated along the sliver uninhibited by contact with pulleys or other devices.
