The invention relates to a mobile telecommunication equipment (1) and a method of detecting the theft of one such equipment. According to the invention, an alarm module (6) for the equipment (1) comprises a short-distance sender/receiver (6a) which can, as a minimum, receive at least one code identifying the owner of the equipment (1) from a short-distance send/receive module (7) which is external to said equipment. A memory element (6d) of the alarm module (6) is used to store at least one equipment (1) owner identification code. A microcontroller (6c) of the module (6) receives the received identification code from the sender/receiver (6a) and compares same to at least one equipment (1) owner identification code which is stored in the aforementioned memory element (6d), such that, when the identification code received is not the same as the stored identification code, the alarm module (6) is activated. Moreover, the module (6) is also activated when the sender/receiver (6a) receives no code. The invention also relates to a short-distance send/receive module which is intended to send at least one identification code to the sender/receiver (2a), said module being integrated into a fixed or mobile element (7).
