Zusammenfassung:	The invention provides a brushing apparatus hardly affected by metal powder and the cleaning water during the brushing operation and free from damage caused by the contact with the metal strip (P). The brushing apparatus of the invention reciprocates in the width direction of the metal strip (P) with its brush roll stand being controlled by a control unit. The brushing apparatus comprises position sensors (100) for detecting the width direction edges of the metal strip (P), wherein the position sensors (100) are provided with emitting portions (101) each located in a position corresponding to an end of the brush roll for emitting linear flows of water or air, etc. from a side above or below the metal strip (P) to the other side and receiving portions (102) for receiving the linear flows and outputting detection signals to the control unit.
